Harry Matthews w as the fifth surviving eldest of 8 children born to William and Sarah Matthews. (nee W alker). Sarah was born at Audmore. Harry was born in Moreton on 30 th May 1895 and baptised at Woodc ote on 30t h June 1895 . His father William was a shepher d and from the birth locations of Harry’s siblings it appears the family moved around a 5 mile area including Blymhill, W oodcote Cherrigton and Lillesh all. Harry enlisted in Staf ford into Royal Army Service Corps and served in Motor T ransport at Cam berwell. He died at home on 16 th March from meningitis. The family were probably living at Lilleshall as his grave is in St.Mic hael’s Churchyard
