In the winter of 1985/86 substantial repairs were made to the Shropshire Union Canal between Cowley Bridge (No. 32) and Cowley Tunnel (No. 33) near Gnosall in Staffordshire. Frank Shenton, a resident at the time recorded on cine film the dangerous condition of overhanging rocks along the canal cutting and some of the repair work undertaken.
